California Bill SB 648 Seeks to Ban E-cigarettes In Private Homes

Call To Action! Say "NO!" To California Bill 648!

The legislature in California has proposed a bill (SB 648) that would declare e-cigarettes as "hazardous to the health of the general public" and include them in all future smoking bans passed in California.

Worse yet, this bill, if passed, would also ban e-cigarette use in private dwellings by allowing landlords to prevent tenants from using e-cigarettes in their own homes! This is beyond ridiculous.

NOTE: Updates here!

CASAA News Blog:

"If enacted, this bill would:
Ban the use of vapor products wherever smoking is banned. Among those provisions most likely to impact users are those that would:

Permit landlords to ban e-cigarette use in private homes. (Section 2)
Ban e-cigarette use inside or within 20 feet of any public building or in a vehicle owned by the state. (Section 5)
Ban e-cigarette use in hospitals and medical facilities, except in specifically defined rooms where smoking is allowed (Sections 7 and 8)
Declares that the use of e-cigarettes is "hazardous to the health of the general public", and would include e-cigarettes in all future smoking bans passed in California. (Section 14)
Ban e-cigarette use in workplaces. Violations would be punishable by fines of $100, $200, and $500. (Section 15(
Ban e-cigarette use in railroads and air carriers. (Section 16)"

How To Attend The Hearing

California Bill 648 is scheduled for a hearing before the Senate Committee on April 17th at 1:30 p.m. in the State Capitol Building in Sacramento (Room # 4203 - The John L. Burton room).

The hearing is open to the public, and will allow for public comment at the end of the hearing. So if you live in or near Sacramento (or can travel there), please try your best to attend the hearing and have your say!

Important: Also, if you want to attend the hearing, be sure to contact CASAA at board@casaa.org with "California Testimony" in the subject line.

They need vapers throughout California to help organize trips to Sacramento so as many vapers as possible will be able to attend. So please help out in any way you can! :)

How To Submit Your Testimony

If you want to submit your testimony directly to the Health Committee, you can do so by emailing or faxing Senate Health Committee Assistant Alex Norring here:

Email: alex.norring@sen.ca.gov
Fax: (916) 324-0384

Note: The deadline for testimony is April 10th. If you're emailing, be sure to include "SB 648 Testimony" in the subject line.

Also, you can continue to contact individual California legislators up to and after the hearing.

Important!

For more information on the proposed bill, and for the full contact information of the Senate Health Committee members and Senate Judiciary Committee members, be sure to go to the CASAA News Blog here.

They've listed the address, phone number, email address and fax number for all committee members so you can easily contact them and have your say about this ridiculous bill. :)

Happy vaping!

  1. Thanks for posting this!!! Though this particular bill doesn't effect me (since I live in VA) I'll be sure to pass it on to my vaping friends out in California. Nonsense like this HAS to be stopped!
